So like here is why I am doing a sliding scale: Income inequality in Oregon. Everyone deserves a little relief from pain and stress and it shouldn’t be something only rich people get. Most people who are making less money are not working less hard. And even if they are, they deserve massages. So I’d like to make it easier for that to happen. But it only works if you all cooperate. You know what you can afford; pay accordingly.
But it also makes possible: No tips, I don’t do tips and don’t like them. I don’t work for tips. But if you just feel so moved by the wonderfulness of your massage that you want to pay me a little more—now you can do that without having to give me a tip.
Also, if you want to find out what you’re getting before you commit to paying full market price, you can pick your own trial price and trial treatment.
oK and not for publication, I feel uncomfortable about those prices, but I also feel uncomfortable about lower prices, so there is that! I really don’t want to work for such a low sum that I feel like I’m underselling my self-esteem or for that matter wasting my time that would be better spent having fun. I could always make more money working more at the lab at 40 bucks an hour, seriously. Okay, so some people will feel like they can’t afford me even with the sliding scale. Maybe it will take a little longer to build up to a full calendar (although with trades…I mean filling my calendar at 3 a week is not really a big reach.) I don’t want to be like, Okay now you’re hooked, JUST KIDDING RAISE PRICES. I don’t want to raise prices for at least three years. My expenses are fairly low, I’m charging for my skill and expertise, and 90 for an hour is what the other hanyaks are charging in town so.
